As the story goes, as late as the 1970s there lived a German immigrant in New York City named Max. Max was a loner, never married and had no family in the United States. He lived in a small apartment and worked at a bookstore. Max was a quiet man, but he was also a very kind man. He would always go out of his way to help others, and he was always willing to lend a listening ear. One day, Max was walking home from work when he saw a young woman struggling to carry a heavy box. He immediately went over to her and offered to help. The young woman was grateful for his help, and she and Max began to talk. As they talked, Max learned that the young woman had just moved to New York City from Germany, and that she was struggling to find a job. Max immediately offered to help her, and he told her that he would do everything he could to help her find a job. The young woman was so grateful for Max’s help that she hugged him and thanked him. Max was so touched by her gratitude that he hugged her back and told her that he was happy to help her. Max and the young woman remained friends, and Max continued to help her in any way he could. The young woman eventually found a job and became very successful. She never forgot Max’s kindness, and she always remained grateful for his help. Max continued to live in his small apartment and work at the bookstore. He was still a loner, but he was no longer lonely. He had the young woman as a friend, and he knew that he had made a difference in her life. Max lived a long and happy life, and he died peacefully in his sleep. The young woman never forgot Max, and she always remembered him as the kindest man she had ever known.
